PA AOH Chaplains Needed

admin | February 28th, 2010 | No Comments »

Brothers,

On October 3, 2009 , our State Chaplain Fr. Tom O’Donnell wrote a letter to all PA AOH Divisions encouraging them to appoint a Chaplain who is a Priest, Deacon or Religious Brother.

See Fr. Tom’s letter here: PAAOHLettertoRecruitChaplains

Unfortunately, I am still receiving Certificate of Elections for 2010 with no Chaplain included.

See list of current Chaplains here: PAAOH CHAPLAINS 2009.

Some are missing because of missing form 9, while others are just missing. Please correct this oversight.

Denny’s Restaurants Irish Response Lacking

admin | February 28th, 2010 | No Comments »

Brothers,

I have received the following reply from Denny’s which is a form reply which some other people have also received after emailing them their disgust at the advertisement. I am still waiting on an answer to my letter which I am hoping will be a more detailed response than this form reply.

Seamus Boyle National President
Ancient Order of Hibernians in America Inc,

Dear Mr. Boyle,

Denny’s has a history of using humor in its television advertising. It is certainly not the intention of the company to offend anyone or any group and we apologize if this spot has in any way. As a result of the feedback we have received from our customers the spot will no longer be on the air after Tuesday. We thank those who took the time to contact us.

Sincerely,
Denny’s Customer Service

Denny’s Restaurants Insult Irish

admin | February 27th, 2010 | No Comments »

Brothers,

On Thursday February 25th, I was notified about an advertisement  that Denny’s was using as a promotion and I could not believe it so I made some calls and found out it was true. I contacted Joe Brady our National Anti Defamation Chairman who immediately got to work on it verifying it and getting the address phone # etc and getting a letter of to them after a phone call to them went unanswered yesterday. Click the following link (AOH Denny’s Letter) for the letter I sent to them on Thursday and since then I have heard nothing although I have been busy with a death in the family and doctors appointments. I ask all of you especially anyone near the area of their corporate offices in South Carolina to put pressure on them. On Monday morning in the philadelphia area we are having a protest outside their restaurant on City Line Ave across from the ABC Studio’s. I ask all of you to get involved if you have a Denny’s in your area and if not write them a letter and keep the phones hopping. Thank you and again I ask that all State Presidents send this info to all your county and division presidents. Thank you all.

Seamus Boyle National President

New Bishop for Scranton

admin | February 23rd, 2010 | No Comments »

I just got this good news from the Vatican News Service – a new Bishop has been appointed for Scranton. Guess where he was born – Carbondale. There will be great rejoicing in the Diocese of Scranton and especially for a native son of Carbondale to be appointed as the new Bishop.  – Fr. Tom

The Holy Father appointed Msgr. Joseph C. Bambera of the clergy of the diocese of Scranton, U.S.A., delegate of the apostolic administrator of Scranton and pastor of St. Thomas Aquinas parish at Archbald and of St. Mary of Czestochowa parish at Eynon, as bishop of Scranton (area 22.913, population 1,095,092, Catholics 316,825, priests 352, permanent deacons 63, religious 627). The bishop-elect was born in Carbondale, U.S.A. in 1956 and ordained a priest in 1983.

Please Pray for Jim Green’s Sister

admin | February 23rd, 2010 | No Comments »

Brothers and Sisters:

It is with great regret that I must inform you of the death of our brother Jim Green’s sister, Donna Landon.  Our Lord mercifully called Donna home this afternoon after she fought a courageous battle against cancer.  Her viewing will be this Wednesday and Thursday at Slaters in Brentwood, and her funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday at St. Sylvester’s in Brentwood at 10:00 a.m.  I have spoken with Jim and he has asked that we keep his sister and his family in our prayers.
