This establishment is mainly used for the IHM Sisters when they retire or have to go to after an illness.
With over two hundred nuns attending the service of prayer and song the AOH Color Guards of the Wolf Tones and Notre Dame Division followed by the Irish Thunder Pipes and Drums opened up the ceremony by leading fifty sisters to the area were the service was going to take place and were the rest of the IHM Sisters and guest were waiting.
Several readings were made and songs sung by the congragation. The closing prayer was made by Reverend Christopher Papa, AOH Chaplain.
Back in the recreation room were everyone congregated afterward for refreshments provided by the AOH and the Irish Thunder entertained the sisters with some Irish and Patriotic music that they all enjoyed.
This event of piping and having refreshments for the sisters happens every year thanks to AOH President Mick Dunleavy of the Wolf Tones who organizes the event and coordinates with Mark Ryan of the Notre Dame Division.

To everyone I know in the Greater Pittsburgh Irish Community!!

The AOH Allegheny County Board is hosting a “Let’s Dance!” fundraiser on Saturday evening, June 26, 2010, at the Castle Shannon Fire Hall. It’s an “Oldies Night” with headliner “The Mansfield 5″, with an opening by Don Obusek’s tribute to “The Magic of Elvis”!

This is a fundraiser meant to capture the spirit of summer and to recapture the great fun we had when Pittsburgh hosted the AOH/LAOH State Convention last summer. We are hoping to sell out, and sell out quickly! Ticket information and everything you need to know is in flyer below and in the attachment. Beer and soft drinks will be provided at no additional charge to you, and you’re welcome to BYOB.

Please circulate the flyer through as many email groups as you have! It should be a great night of fun and dancing!! We look forward to seeing you there and having a great summer night.

We are trying to get an idea of how many people are interested in coming out that night, so even if you don’t want to order tickets in advance, I’d appreciate a return email from you to indicate how many people you anticipate having in your group. If groups of 10 or more are needed, we can make arrangements to reserve a table for your party if you let me know! If you’re ready to make a reservation and/or order tickets, please call Rich O’Malley right away at 412-401-3945.

Thanks!!

Brothers,

I wish you all a happy memorial day. Please keep in your prayers all our military personnell who are still in harms way in Iraq and Afghanistan and other parts of the world. Although it is a holiday for America and has recently been referred to as the beginning of summer, please reflect on what memorial day really means and thank God for our men and women in uniform who have protected us and have given the ultimate sacrifice.

Yesterday was a special day for me as I attended the dedication of a Viet Nam Memorial Wall in Wildwood NJ. Over 10,000 people attended this dedication with representatives from every branch of the military. This permanent wall is built to half scale of the Viet Nam Veterans Remembrance Wall in Washington DC and is the only permanent replica of that Wall although there is one somewhat similar in Florida.

About 2 years ago myself and some of our AOH brothers erected the Healing Wall, better known as the traveling wall, in Fox Park in Wildwood NJ and at that time over 15,000 people visited it in just over 4 days. One of the people responsible for bringing that wall to NJ was Greg Mazzotta who proclaimed that “we will have our own permanent wall in Wildwood some day”. Unfortunately Greg died a month after starting the fundraising but his lifelong friend, Vince De Prinzio, would not let his friend’s dream die and contacted many of the organizations in the Wildwoods who got behind the project including the AOH and the Carpenters Union and many others and all the money was privately raised. What a true memorial day for the people of New Jersey and especially for Tom Callahan who was there to see the wall in his own town. He lost one son in Viet Nam and another son died less than a year later from injuries received there. Just think of this father when you think of memorial day and as he said pray for all the troops and their families, living and deceased.
