Brothers,

Your National Board has authorized the printing of the attached flyers for St Patricks Day and beyond. I have attached 2 different but similar flyers. The NB has ordered the flyer which does not have the Happy St Patricks day on them but they can still be used at the parades or all year long. We will try to get the flyers out to you if you want to distribute them at the parade.
If you want to print your own with the happy st patricks Day on them please do so. It is a two fold purpose in getting out these flyers it promotes the AOH and our Catholic heritage and recognized the Eucharistic Congress being held in Ireland this summer. It also shows our pro life position and is a great time to get the word out. The Life House Ireland movement is a group now operating here in the US as well as Ireland and wants to partner with us to show our heritage and faith. Please pass this on to you county Presidents and Division Presidents and anyone who wants to hand these leaflets at the parades. If you want to print
them please do so, if you want some sent to you please contact me immediately.

Brothers,

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett has again proclaimed March as Irish American Heritage Month thanks to the efforts of Brother Cholly Shields of Dauphin County. Also National President Seamus Boyle had asked that we obtain proclamations from our local county, township, and municipal goverments, if this has been done please let everyone know. There is still time to get this done.
Gov. Corbett is a member of Allegheny Div. 9 and Lt. Gov. Cawley of Bucks Co. Div. 5.

Our Irish-American heritage adds to cultural diversityHarrisburg Patriot-News “Letter to the Editor” published Wednesday, March 22, 2011

http://www.pennlive.com/letters/index.ssf/2011/03/our_irish-american_heritage_ad.html

A heartfelt “fair play” (“well done” in Irish parlance) to our local organizations, theaters, Irish pub owners, media, businesses and patrons for the tremendous increase in activities surrounding St. Patrick’s Day here in central Pennsylvania.

The Patriot-News provides excellent articles highlighting the myriad aspects of Irish culture, and its extensive and ever increasing publicity of events has proved invaluable.

Not too long ago, the day and the month of March designated as Irish Heritage Month by the governor were barely acknowledged or noted here. Since then, our fledgling reinstatement of the Harrisburg St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2000 has grown to produce a first-class parade run by a solid association.

Irish acts now perform to packed houses in surrounding forums, local pubs and restaurants. In addition, the restaurants serve authentic Irish fare and libations, and various profit and nonprofit organizations hold their own well-attended events.

The transition is extraordinary and greatly welcomed. Surely, such laudable celebrations of our Irish and Irish-American heritage also serve to contribute to the importance of recognizing the value of our multicultural diversity here in central Pennsylvania.

On Friday I had a lengthy conversation with Jonah Roll of the Phila. Human Relations Commission regarding the defamatory, insulting and blatantly vulgar merchandise being sold at Spencer’s at demeaning the Irish community. During
this call Mr. Roll was regularly consulting with Rue Landau, Esq. , administrator. Ms. Landau and Mr. Roll were sympathetic very supportive of our position and feelings toward Spencer’s when I related examples of the type of merchandise that is being sold. Legally Spencer’s business practice is protected by the First Amendment, that of free speech. The position of the Phila. Human Relations Commission is that in the absence of threats, etc. there is no cause for action by them against Spencer’s. This answer was not acceptable to me and I pointed out to Mr. Roll that his office has a Dispute Resolution Process and at the least the situation with Spencer’s fits the criteria to be addressed through this process. With that, Mr. Roll agreed and opened a complaint. The HRC will now be reaching out formally to Spencer’s to come to the table and engage in dialogue regarding their business practices.Their compliance is entirely voluntary. At the least if they decline to participate we now have a paper trail showing our efforts; if they agree a conference will be scheduled. I made clear to Mr. Roll the feelings of Division 61 members regarding being victimized and degraded by the business practices of Spencer’s. Therefore if they agree and we do get to the conference level with Spencer’s division members (AOH & LAOH) will be enlisted to participate. I will provide updates as information is received regarding the status of this complaint. Consideration should also be given to the contacting the management of Franklin Mills Mall regarding the merchandise in Spencer’s since much of it is sexually and alcohol oriented and unaccompanied children are freely allowed in
the store. I’ll provide updates as information is received.

I wanted to pass this along to you. It was a fight for me but the city human relations
commission ultimately came around. Then again I had no intention of letting them
brush me off. At times it does pay to be a hard headed Irishman.

Regards -

Brothers,

On December 7, 2011 Senator Mike Stack sponsored the United Ireland Resolution and brought it before the PA State Senate in the form of Senate Resolution SR235. If you would like to contact Senator Stack’s office to thank him for sponsoring the resolution his email is: stack@pasenate.com, or by phone at (717) 787-9608 or (215) 281-2539.

Once proposed, the resolution was referred to the Rules and Executive Nominations Committee for review. Much like the House
version HR304, which is currently stalled in the Committee on State Government, we need to reach out to the Committee Chair to bring this legislation back to the Senate floor for a vote.

The Committee Chair of the PA State Senate Rules and Executive Nominations Committee is Senator Dominic Pileggi who represents PA
Senate District 9. This district consists of part of Delaware County and part of Chester County. I was informed that Senator Stack’s office is in the process of preparing a letter to send to Senator Pileggi requesting that he move the resolution through his committee and back to the Senate floor.

Senator Stack is doing his part to get this resolution passed, we need to do ours. Senator Pileggi needs to here from us. I have included his information below. While every call counts, it is important that Senator Pileggi hears from his constituents, so if you or someone you know lives in his Senatorial District (#9), please contact him, let him know the significance that the UI Resolution plays in Ireland’s quest for self determination. Remind him of the contributions that the Irish have made to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Ask when you might expect the resolution to be released back to the Senate.
